Ari Awagana is a linguist. He speaks seven languages and is expert for Hausa, Kanuri and cultures in West and Central Africa. He studied in Niamey/Niger and Dakar/Senegal before he moved to Leipzig where he earned his doctorate. As a specialist for sociolinguistics and cultural studies, he teaches and researches literature, performativity, education and postcolonial debates. His field research in the Lake Chad area has gotten international attention and is supported by the European Research Council.
